The GTI-R is coming!

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

We are excited to announce VW’s latest high-performance is coming to America. The Volkswagen debuted the Volkswagen GTI-R at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, to much applause. The 2010 VW Golf GTI-R will have the same 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo as the European Market-only VW Scirocco and will be able to dash from 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. Expected output in horsepower for this hatchback should be near 260 hp, and performance is further enhanced by the AWD system.

This red-hot version of VW’s iconic hatchback should arrive in South Florida in early 2010, so get ready for a great price and great performance in the same iconic look you already love.

This time, we pit the suave European demeanor of the VW CC against the eager and spontaneous Acura TL. The Acura handling is crisp and sharp, with a suspension that, in contrast to the CC, is tuned for a more hard-core enthusiast. This unfortunately leads to a slightly harsher ride than its VW opponent, and where the CC displays the quiet reserve of a European dignitary, the TL transmits more road noise than a Japanese popstar’s zealous fan boy. It’s a tolerable noise, though, considering some of it is coming from the 3.7 liter VTEC-enhanced V6, the most powerful production engine Acura has ever built.

The comparison continues in the cockpit, as well. The Acura TL is laden with technological knobs and gauges splashed throughout the cabin and the thick, shrouded dash, while the VW CC provides a more humble and dignified display of its tech. Outside on the Acura TL, the techno-worship continues, with a boastful swooping chrome “V” and bottom-heavy style presenting itself in the front. The VW, again, answers with a more refined, classy exterior almost to the point of introversion.

There you have it. The spirited, eager Acura TL and the dignified VW CC – two personalities you might find playing opposite each other in any summer buddy flick (AKA “Bromance”). Both prove to have the juice, its only a question of how you want to show it to the rest of the world.

Which do you like more? The cheerful ostentation of Japanese design or the say-more-with-less European sensibilities approach? Make yourself heard with a comment below or participate in our poll now…

  • VW plays it clean with great success

    Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Volkswagen announced July 2009 sales of 20,590 units, up from July 2008 sales.  And there is no doubt about it – VW’s clean diesels are leading the pack in sales.  The Jetta, Jetta Sportwagen and Touareg TDI came in accounting for more than 30% of the month’s total sales.

“Volkswagen of America is extremely pleased by how well our clean diesel TDIs continued to sell throughout July, and by our highly successful first month of the government sponsored ‘Cash-for-Clunkers’ Program,” said Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “It was not by accident that Volkswagen was able to perform so well in the government ‘Cash-for-Clunkers’ Program. Our dealers were well informed and fully trained on the rules of the program, our marketing was in place, and our product line of fuel efficient vehicles all contributed to a successful first month. I’m thrilled that our dealers were able to respond so well to the ‘Cash-for-Clunkers’ Program,” added Barnes.

As VW continues to top sales in the diesel categories, one can only hope that all industries are starting to see the beginning of the end of our current recession.

    2010 Golf Wagon

Volkswagen has released pictures of the new facelifted Golf/Jetta Wagon, slated for release in North America in September of this year.

There are many features in the 6th generation of this world bestseller, including ESP, daytime running lights, six airbags, roof railing, power windows all around, up-shift indictor, power and heated outside mirrors, folding rear bench seat, six airbags, central locking with RF remote control and climate control.   Cargo capacity is approximately 1,495 liters.
At the time of its presentation last fall in Germany, the sixth generation Golf received excellent marks, especially for its high-end quality. In the interior, it was especially in the styling of the gauges that the Golf crossed boundaries to the next higher class and still does. The same gauges and instruments, including a standard multifunctional display and upshift indicator, are now being used in the new Golf Estate too. Also adopted from the Golf was the new generation of three-spoke steering wheels, which celebrated their debut in the Passat CC in 2008.
